The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has initiated the deferral of R-numbers for digital CCTV cameras found non-compliant with the Essential Requirements (ER) process or from manufacturers who have not submitted declarations for their analog camera models. Cancellation letters are reportedly being issued to affected companies.
This enforcement action aligns directly with the Quality Control Order (QCO) previously issued by the Ministry. The QCO mandates that effective April 9, 2025, BIS Safety licenses for CCTV cameras failing to meet the Essential Requirements for Security of CCTV Cameras (ER-01:2024) will become inoperative. Furthermore, no new licenses will be granted to non-compliant models after this date. These updates are now visible on the official BIS portal.
Manufacturers impacted by these BIS compliance measures are urged to contact BIS promptly to schedule an appointment. During the meeting, they must present their case, including:
Details of current stock quantities bearing the standard mark.
Concrete plans for registering models under ER-01:2024.
A clear explanation for delays in meeting the Indian regulation.
