The Chilean Subsecretariat of Telecommunications (SUBTEL) has issued Resolution Exenta No. 737, significantly amending the country’s technical regulations for low-power wireless devices. The new resolution narrows certification requirements to only medical-use devices, while introducing a QR code labeling system for all other categories.
Certification Still Required for Medical Applications
Under the updated rules, only devices intended for medical use—such as wireless patient monitors or implant communication systems—must undergo formal certification by SUBTEL. This reflects a regulatory focus on preventing interference in critical health environments.
QR Code Labeling Introduced for General Wireless Devices
Commercial and consumer devices such as IoT sensors, Bluetooth accessories, and RFID readers are no longer subject to formal certification. Instead, manufacturers and importers must:
Affix a QR code to product packaging
Link to a Spanish-language webpage displaying:
Technical specifications (frequency, antenna gain, power)
Test reports proving compliance with Chilean telecom standards
Manufacturer/importer contact details
Declaration of Conformity
SUBTEL Maintains Audit Authority
Despite eliminating mandatory certification for most devices, SUBTEL retains the right to audit compliance at any time. This ensures continued transparency and regulatory oversight of wireless equipment sold in Chile.
Terminology Updated to Align with Global Standards
Resolution 737 also includes editorial clarifications and terminology updates—such as defining “p.i.r.e.” (equivalent radiated power)—in accordance with International Telecommunication Union (ITU) definitions, enhancing harmonization with global practices.
Implementation Timeline
The new provisions will take effect nine months after publication—approximately February 22, 2026. Businesses are advised to review their labeling practices and compliance documentation to prepare for the new regime.
