CE mark

The letters "CE" appear on many products traded on the extended single market of the European Economic Area (EEA).

They stated that the products sold in the EEA have been evaluated and meet high safety, health and environmental

protection requirements.

The CE mark is part of the EU's harmonized legislation and is mainly managed by the General Administration of

Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship, and Small and Medium Enterprises. The CE mark used to restrict hazardous

substances is managed by Directorate-General for Environment. Comprehensive guidance on the implementation

of EU product rules can be found in the so-called Blue Guide.

Manufacturer

Manufacturers play a vital role in ensuring the safety of products placed on the EEA extended single market. They are responsible for carrying out conformity assessment, establishing technical documents, issuing EU declarations of conformity and affixing the CE mark on their products.

By affixing the CE mark on the product, the manufacturer declares that the product complies with all the legal requirements of the CE mark and can be sold throughout the European Economic Area. This also applies to products manufactured in other countries sold in the European Economic Area.

Importers and distributors

Importers and distributors help ensure that only CE-marked products that comply with EU regulations can be placed on the EEA market. As an intermediary between manufacturers and traders, they must understand the legal requirements and ensure that the products they distribute, or import meet these requirements.

When is CE marking mandatory?

The CE mark is only applicable to products that have EU regulations and need to be affixed with the CE mark.

Certain products meet multiple EU requirements at the same time. Before applying the CE mark, you must ensure that your product meets all relevant requirements. It is forbidden to affix the CE mark on products that do not exist in EU regulations or do not need to be affixed to the CE mark.

How to obtain the CE mark?

As the manufacturer of the product, you are solely responsible for declaring compliance with all requirements. You do not need a license to affix the CE mark on your product, but before that, you must:

-Ensure compliance with all relevant requirements within the EU
-Determine whether you can evaluate your product yourself, or whether you must involve a Notified Body
-Organize a technical file to record compliance: understand technical documents
-Drafting and signing the EU declaration of conformity
Once your product bears the CE mark-if required by the national competent authority-you must provide them with all the information and supporting documents related to the CE marking.

How do you affix the CE mark?

The CE mark must be visible, clear and indelible.

The CE mark must consist of the first letter "CE", and the vertical dimensions of the two letters should be the same and not less than 5mm (unless otherwise specified in the relevant product requirements).

If you want to reduce or enlarge the CE mark on your product, you should respect the ratio of these two letters. As long as the initial letter remains visible, the CE mark can take different forms (for example, color, solid or hollow).

If the CE mark cannot be affixed to the product itself, you can affix it to the package or any accompanying documents. If your product is subject to multiple EU directives/regulations that require the CE mark to be affixed, the accompanying documents must show that your product complies with all applicable EU directives/regulations.
